Sumter residents woke to a light blanket of snow on Wednesday, Jan. 22, as schools and offices were closed in anticipation of the freezing wintry weather.
According to the National Weather Service, 1.6 inches of snow fell in the Millwood area of Sumter, 1.3 inches fell in Oakland area near Shaw Air Force Base, and Olanta saw 3 inches of powder.

Tonight will be colder, with a low of 13 degrees, according to NWS. The rest of the week should be warmer, with temperatures climbing into the 40s on Friday.
