Sumter Veterans Park skate area closed for renovations

The City of Sumter announced on Wednesday, June 5, the skate park at Veterans Park, located east of Shaw Air Force Base at 3875 Broad St., is closed for renovations. After complaints about the condition of the ramps were received and an inspection was conducted, the skate area was deemed a safety hazard, according to Shelley Kile, communications and tourism director for the city. Cost of repairs is estimated to be $8,000, and city staff are currently looking for materials and funds to get started on the work, Kile said. A timeline for renovations and completion has not yet been announced.
