Three firefighters have tested positive for COVID-19 since the coronavirus broke out into a global pandemic, and the Sumter Fire Department is crediting its adapting to new policies and procedures as a reason the virus has not spread further among the frontline personnel.
Some of those procedures include twice-daily disinfecting and cleaning of the entire headquarters station, required temperature checks of both staff and anyone else entering the buildings and increased cleaning of masks, equipment and vehicles.
Duggan and a headquarters shift gave us a tour and demonstration of the department's new procedures, and we sat down to learn more about how else the virus has impacted their day-to-day.
