Sumter Today: The Epic Stitchers Come to the Sumter County Gallery

Posted
"All That We Carry: The Epic Stitchers and Friends" is an art exhibition curated by award-winning master art quilter Cookie Washington. "I want them to take away a better understanding of the African-American experience...I think the more fully we see each other, the more open our hearts are to each other."
From November 3rd to January 13th the Sumter County Gallery Of Art will have fiber, sweetgrass baskets, indigo, and ceramic pieces from 20 artists located all across the country.
Washington referred to "The Epic Stitchers" as a "zoom guild". Given their geographic spread, interaction was limited to digital spaces during the height of the pandemic. For this exhibition, a number of the artists are converging on Sumter to celebrate together and interact with the community.
The opening reception is on Thursday, November 3rd 5:30-7:30 p.m.
There will also be an Artists' Show-and-Tell on Friday, November 4th 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Booth Room at Patriot Hall.
Sumter Today is presented by the University of South Carolina SumterPrisma Health Tuomey Hospital, and Sumter Tourism Visit Sumter, SC.
