Sumter Today: The Cheraw Tribe of Sumter visits Wilder Elementary

Posted

Chief Ralph Oxendine and Tammy Ray Stevens of The Sumter Tribe of Cheraw Indians visited Wilder Elementary School earlier this week in recognition of Native American Heritage Month. The pair brought regalia, demonstrations, and artifacts for the students to look at and learn about. The tribe is also having a public event at the Sumter County Museum this Saturday. There'll be dancing, music, crafts, and fry bread.

Sumter Today is presented by the University of South Carolina Sumter, Prisma  Health Tuomey Hospital, and Sumter Tourism.
