Sumter Today: Sumter’s nationally ranked tennis complex celebrates its grand reopening

Community leaders and city staff gathered at the Palmetto Tennis Center last week to celebrate its grand reopening after completing Phase 1 of its expansion and renovation.
The complex brings in more than 25,000 players from across the country to Sumter for more than 25 events and tournaments each year.
With that come tourism dollars, and the expansion is expected to bring in millions to Sumter’s economy in addition to providing an exercise and COVID-safe pandemic outlet for residents.
We were at the ceremony to learn more about what’s been added and how important the complex is to the city.
