Sumter Today: Sumter’s future airmen demonstrate their leadership qualities

COVID-19 put a damper on many school-related activities during the school year that just ended, and that included junior ROTC programs across the nation.
In Sumter, with limited in-person instruction until mid-April, Sumter, Crestwood and Lakewood high schools could not have regular drill exercises and lost potential recruits.
To help support the junior ROTC program, the school district created its first-ever cadet leadership course for high school Air Force Junior ROTC, and they held a promotion ceremony on Friday to honor the 31 new officers.
