Sumter Today: Shaw Air Force Base breaks ground on a new state of the art tenant facility

Posted

Red dirt clay was shoveled ceremoniously on Monday as the 25th Attack Group broke ground on what will become their new state of the art operations facility.

The group is home to the MQ-9 Reaper enterprise unit at Shaw, which are remotely piloted aircraft.

The airmen who pilot the Reapers have been working out of temporary trailers since arriving to Shaw in 2018, but now they’ll soon have 100,000 square feet to work from.

We stopped by the base for the groundbreaking and to hear from some of the group and base leaders about the program and its benefit for Shaw and Sumter.
