Sumter Today: "Boomer" the STEM Bus visits Sumter

Posted

"Boomer" is an R.V. that facilitates hands-on STEM education with deaf and hard of hearing student populations, and it stopped by Alice Drive Middle School this week. It's operated by the NTID Regional STEM Center (NRSC), which began as a partnership between the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in New York and the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. The NRSC was founded in 2016 and currently serves twelve southeastern states. During this visit to Sumter students designed games, identified computer parts, and learned about cyphers through code breaking exercises.

Sumter Today is presented by the University of South Carolina Sumter, Visit Sumter, SC, and Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
