Betsy Ross made her mark on American history when she designed an early version of the flag of the United States, distinguished in its 13 five-pointed starts arranged in a circle to represent the 13 colonies that fought for their independence during the American Revolutionary War.

This week, the Daughters of the American Revolution brought a program and Betsy Ross impersonator to Thomas Sumter Academy, where fourth-graders learned about her flag before making their own.
