Sumter Today: A Sumter native works to provide quality affordable housing in the neighborhood where he grew up.

Herb McClary grew up in the West Oakland Avenue area.
Like so many others, he moved away after childhood but has since returned home to do his part in revitalizing his community.
He renovated a home on South Purdy Street and held an open house this week to showcase what he hopes is the spark that can bring more quality affordable housing to the area. We stopped by to see the house and talk more about his goals for building on the growth happening downtown to increase Sumter’s tax base, encourage companies to set roots here and make Sumter what he hopes becomes a “city of unity.”
