Sumter Today: The Sumter Police Department celebrates essay contest winners

For the last eight years, the Sumter Police Department has been hosting a fun celebration for winners of an essay contest. Elementary school students who win an annual Black History Month essay contest through the school district get to go to Chuck E Cheese for a pizza and play party. The police department sees it as an initiative to gain positive interactions between law enforcement and Sumter’s youth, because, really, who doesn’t like pizza?
