Sumter Storm sweeps Ridge Spring in twinbill

RIDGE SPRING - The Sumter Storm maintained its perch atop the American Legion softball lower state standings with a doubleheader sweep of Ridge Spring on Tuesday at the RS field.

The Storm improved to 9-1 on the season with a 13-0, 4-inning win in the opener and a 15-0 triumph in three innings in the nightcap.

Laini Kosinski had a big game both in the circle and at the plate for Sumter in the second game. She tossed a 1-hitter with six strikeouts while going 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run and scoring three runs.

Anna Grace Fowler, Anna Marie Beard, Madison Rainwater and Maliah Wright each scored twice.

In Game 1, Wright and Sadie Johnson combined to throw a 2-hit shutout with six strikeouts.

Beard led the offense, going 3-for-3 with two runs. Kailin Hodge had a double and two runs, while Wright had a triple and a run. Cambrie DeBerry scored twice.

The Storm was scheduled to play host to Holly Hill in a doubleheader on Thursday.

Sumter Legends 18-18

Holly Hill 4-0

Emily Jordan tossed a no-hitter to help the Sumter Legends close out a doubleheader sweep of Holly Hill on Tuesday at Patriot Park SportPlex.

The Legends beat Holly Hill 18-0 in the nightcap after winning the opener 18-4. Sumter, which improved to 7-3, won both games in three innings.

Jordan recorded two strikeouts and also picked up two of the Legends' 10 hits. Madison Truett and Hannah Truett each had two hits with a double.

In the first game, Sumter pounded out 17 hits. Josie Self and Amberly Way led the attack as both had a home run and a double.

Madison Long, Hannah Truett, McKenzie Truett and Andi Grae Wingate each had a double and a single.

Colleen McIntosh started and pitched two no-hit innings to get the victory. She struck out two while walking one.
