Volunteers from Sumter Senior Services-RSVP of Sumter commemorated Sept. 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, commonly known as 9/11 Day, by delivering doughnuts and coffee to local first responders. Through generous donations from Murray's Donuts, Dunkin Donuts and Baker's Sweets, the RSVP volunteers were able to show a bit of gratitude to the Sumter Police Department, Sumter Fire Department Headquarters, Sumter EMS and fire departments on Alice Drive, Manning Road, Shaw AFB, Stadium Road and Thomas Sumter Highway. RSVP volunteers make a difference by investing a few hours per week to a local nonprofit or organization in need of assistance. Volunteer opportunities include delivering meals, sorting nonperishable food donations, mentoring the youth, administrative duties and more. If you are 55 years or older, a Sumter County resident and would like more information, contact Hyacinth Kinley at (803) 773-5508 or rsvpdirector@sumterseniorservices.org.
