Letter to the editor: Sumter schools need new ideas and a new direction

My name is Artie Baker, and I am a Sumter County councilman. I am proud to be part of the cohesive "Sumter Delegation," where we are a team and get things done, no matter the party affiliation. We are a team, but one entity that hasn't been part of the "team" is the Sumter County School Board.

I've seen the Sumter County public school system go from high to low in just a few short years. For the first time in a decade, we finally have the chance to have a functioning school board that will directly impact how the district is running, and many like me are very excited about this. We can finally move Sumter County forward together.

I am excited to back Jeff Zell and Dan Palumbo in this runoff election! These folks are passionate, energetic, positive and genuinely want to make a difference in the community; let's help them with that by helping them to get elected.

Better days are coming to Sumter, and I am very excited about that.
