Sumter School District’s summer meals program is back in full swing, offering 10 free pre-packaged meals per week to Sumter County residents ages 18 and under when their families register.
The meal distribution is part of the Seamless Summer Option through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to Shelly Galloway, the district’s executive director of communication and community engagement.
Summer vacation meals are available for Sumter County residents 18 years and under. However, students enrolled in summer school in the district are not eligible to receive summer meal bundles because meals are already provided to them by Sumter School District Food Service.
The program has already started this week and will continue to operate Thursday, June 20, and Thursday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. In July, the program operates on the following Tuesdays: July 2, July 9 and July 16, also from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Meals can only be picked up from one of the following locations weekly: Hillcrest Food Service Office, 4255 Peach Orchard Road, Dalzell; Mayewood Middle, 4300 Brewington Road, Sumter; or the F.J. DeLaine Center, 5355 Cane Savannah Road, Wedgefield. Parents or guardians must register each week to receive meals that week.
