Total candidates for Sumter school board races in November are down from 30 to 29 after one person withdrew on Tuesday afternoon.

In a withdrawal letter submitted to the Sumter County Voter Registration and Elections Office, Wedgefield resident Patrice Campbell-Gaines bowed out of the District 5 election for Sumter School District's Board of Trustees.

There are still two candidates in that race: incumbent Shawn Ragin and Mary F. Singleton.

The deadline for any other candidates to withdraw and not have their name on the ballot is Sept. 21 at 5 p.m., according to Pat Jefferson, agency director.

The midterm election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
