Police say they found no threat after officers responded to reports of an active shooter at Morris College Thursday morning.

After 11:30 a.m., the Emergency 911 Center received a third-party call of a possible active shooter at a building on the college campus in Sumter.

Morris, area schools and daycares were placed on lockdown as city and county officers responded. There was no signs of violence or threat found, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department.

The college took the appropriate immediate actions in response to the threat, McGirt said.

Officers searched buildings and grounds and performed a final safety check before lifting the lockdown on and off campus. Students, faculty and staff were allowed to return to normal operations.

An investigation is ongoing by the police department.
