Sumter Police Department to collect children's letters to Santa

Just like magic, a special mailbox from the North Pole appeared outside the Sumter Police Department.

Santa has asked the Sumter police officers to help him collect and deliver Christmas wishes to little ones around town, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the department.

The bright red mailbox is at the front of the police department at 335 N. Lafayette Drive. Letters placed in the box by Dec. 18 will be taken to the North Pole, and Santa will work long and hard to write back, McGirt said.

No postage is needed, but be sure to include a return address.
