Sumter Mayor Merchant visits Lemira to help with news show

Sumter Mayor David Merchant made a surprise visit to Lemira Elementary School before winter break to be a guest host on the morning news show during the school's PJ day. Working with the staff and students who produce the show that is televised throughout the school, Merchant helped to deliver the pledge, announcements and messages of affirmation to the students. After the TV shoot, the mayor visited with the elected student council members to discuss what it means to be a leader. After taking questions, the student council vice president presented the mayor with a token of appreciation.
