Sumter man wanted in shooting that injured a minor; UPDATE - Suspect in custody

UPDATE: According to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Jaden Shamont Smith was in custody on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 9. More information will be provided as it is available.

A Sumter man is wanted in connection to a nonfatal shooting during which a minor was injured on Jan. 1.

According to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, 22-year-old Jaden Shamont Smith is wanted on three counts of attempted murder, two counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and criminal conspiracy.

Smith was identified as a suspect in the shooting on East Red Bay Road on Wednesday, Jan. 1. A minor was wounded as a result of the shooting, according to Bordeaux.

Smith is 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair.
