Update: Wells turned himself in to the Sumter Police Department without incident Friday morning.

The Sumter Police Department seeks the public’s help in locating a 43-year-old Sumter man accused of a shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon.

Kareem Abdul Wells, of Stratton Court, is wanted on charges of attempted murder and weapons charges, said Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the police department.

Police were called after 1:15 p.m. to a residence on Dicks Street where they found a man shot multiple times.

According to McGirt, Wells and an acquaintance got into an argument outside the home when Wells retrieved a gun and shots were fired. Wells then sped off in a black 2019 Dodge Charger with SC tag TFK913.

The 40-year-old victim was transported to a Columbia area hospital, McGirt said.

An investigation is ongoing, and police ask that anyone who sees Wells or knows where he could be to contact the Sumter Police Department at (803) 436-2700.
