An 86-year-old man was the victim of a home invasion, robbery and vehicle theft that occurred on Mohican Drive early Monday.

At about 1:45 a.m., the Sumter County Sheriff's Office responded to a home which the victim said a subject broke into through the side door window.

According to the incident report, the subject was reportedly a Black male about 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighed 150-170 pounds. He wore a mask, gloves and had a handgun and demanded money and jewelry from the victim.

The subject reportedly tied the victim to a bed post while he searched through the house. The subject did not find any money or jewelry, but he took the victim's watch and wallet before fleeing in the victim's 2019 silver Toyota Camry, the report stated.

That was when the victim was able to get untied and call law enforcement. There was no indication he was physically harmed.

According to the report, patrol units were attempting to stop the victim's vehicle on Broad Street and St. Paul Church Road for a license plate light that was out, but the vehicle accelerated toward American Mobile Home Park.

The subject reportedly left the vehicle before law enforcement could make contact.

The subject left a handgun inside the vehicle that was collected and placed into evidence, and the vehicle was released to the victim.

No arrest has been made. The Sumter County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
