Sumter Item's Media Day returns on Wednesday

Posted

The Sumter Item is set to host its return of Media Day, a social and live streaming event celebrating high school football in Sumter, Clarendon and Lee counties.

Presented by Hines Furniture, public and private schools will each be featured in their own time slot between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, with the program's head coach and two players sitting for an interview with The Item's sports staff, editor Tim Leible and reporter Isaiah Lucas.

Interviews will be streamed live on The Sumter Item's Facebook page, and those wanting to see a school in person can come to the event at USC Sumter's Arts and Letters Building. There is no admission to attend or watch.

The event will mark the second time The Item has hosted a Media Day, with the first happening in 2019 before the pandemic.

Also during the event, just before Laurence Manning Academy's football program is featured, the Hines Furniture Athlete of the Year winner, LMA basketball player Jaden Sanders, will be honored.

Stay tuned throughout the event for a special surprise announcement from The Item about an exciting and new upcoming community event.

The Sumter Item's 2022 Media Day is also presented by Dental Team of Sumter, Mary Ann's Deli, Simpson Hardware and Sporting Goods, McLaughlin Ford, Kona Ice of Sumter and McLeod Health.
