The Sumter County Gallery of Art, 200 Hasel St. in Sumter, will present Twisted Eden - A Conversation with Artist Emma Knight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11.

There is no mistaking Emma Knight's quirky artistic style. Windswept, puffy, organic shapes fill the canvas and take the place of foliage, leaving the viewer with a sense of curiosity and wonder.

Our audience has been dazzled and delighted with Knight's "claymation" trees, brightly colored snakes and lurking UFOs, reflecting Knight's thoughts about how different beings coexist. Knight observes, "My style is both random and controlled. It's not exactly what a tree looks like, but you know that's what it is - it's very freeing. The landscape paintings I create are influenced by a childhood love of fairy tales, cartoons and science fiction." Her paintings reveal an atmospheric sensibility. Line, shape and color work in concert to evoke a mood of a fantastical place and time rather than clear and detached details.

Light refreshments will be served at the event sponsored by Dr. Deanne and Elielson Messais and Hill Plumbing and Air.
