Sumter firefighters rescue victim from Alice Drive fire

Sumter firefighters rescued a victim from a house fire that occurred on Alice Drive.

Just after 2:50 a.m. Sunday, June 9, firefighters responded to a call of a structure fire with a possible victim still inside on Alice Drive. Units arrived to find a one-story home with smoke and flames showing on the front and right side of the home, according to the incident report.

Sumter police officers on scene confirmed a victim was inside. After gaining entry to the home, firefighters conducted a search, locating the victim in the back left bedroom of the home. The victim was removed from the home through the window and transported by Sumter EMS to a local hospital for further treatment, the report said.

Fire investigators determined a potential source of the fire to be an air fryer located near the stove but could not confirm, according to the incident report. The fire was ruled unintentional.

Firefighters secured the home before departing the scene at 5:40 a.m. Sunday.
