Sumter coroner seeks help identifying man's body found in woods behind Broad Street

The body of an unidentified man was found behind a Broad Street store on Monday.
The Sumter County Coroner’s Office and the Sumter Police Department are investigating after a body of an adult male was located in a wooded area behind the Piggly Wiggly at 1011 Broad Street.
According to Coroner Robbie Baker, the man had no form of identification about his person, and the body was already decomposing when it was found.
The man is believed to be between 40-50 years old and white, Baker said. The individual may have been a homeless person residing in the Sumter area.
According to an autopsy conducted on Thursday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, there were no signs of physical trauma or injuries.
The Sumter County Coroner’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the man.
He is approximately 5’6 – 5’8 tall and weighs about 175 -200 pounds. He was wearing a t-shirt, cargo shorts and a pair of black slip on tennis shoes with white soles.
The autopsy showed a tattoo on the right forearm of what appeared to be a grim reaper, Baker said.
