Sumter coroner releases name of man killed in shooting; investigation continues

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker released the name of the victim in a shooting on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Dink Street at about 5 a.m. on May 7.

Robert Dustin Burleson, 43, of Sumter, was pronounced dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound, Baker said.

Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday, May 12, at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

An investigation is ongoing by Sumter County Sheriff's Office and Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
