Sumter coroner releases name of 24-year-old victim in Walmart shooting

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker has released the name of the individual who was shot at Walmart Supercenter on Friday, Feb. 14. 

Jaquante Montgomery, 24, of Sumter, was pronounced dead at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital due to injuries sustained in the shooting, according to Baker.

Montgomery was shot more than once, Baker said.

Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

An investigation is ongoing by Sumter Police Department and Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
