Sumter City Council Ward 4 early voting is underway

Early voting is underway for those voting in the Ward 4 election in Sumter from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 14-15, at Sumter County Voter Registration/Election Office, 129 E. Liberty St.

On the initial voting date of Nov. 5, none of the five candidates secured a majority of votes to win outright. The two front-runners, Gene Weston and Rebecca Lynn Kennedy, will be in the runoff.

Weston earned the most votes, securing 24.69%, or 584 votes, followed by Kennedy, who got 22.37%, or 529 votes. They will face each other in a runoff race later this month.

If you miss early voting, the final and official voting date will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the precincts below. The winner of the runoff will succeed Councilman Steve Corley, who did not run for reelection.
