SUMTER ART ASSOCIATION

The initial meeting of the Sumter Art Association for the 2021-22 year was held Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the parish hall of the Church of the Holy Comforter.

President Carla Young welcomed the 30 members attending, with a special welcome to new member Virginia McFaddin. Young introduced her guest, Bonnie Disney, and welcomed her warmly.

The president asked members to reflect for a moment to remember members of the association who passed away during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 years. These ladies were Possie Atkinson, Mary Elizabeth Blanchard, Helen Bruner, Anna Bynum, Allene Compton, Annamarie Davis, Jackie Gamble, Margaret Hunter and Tillie Keer.

Ginger Jones gave an inspirational devotional meditation and offered a prayer. She will be sharing chaplain duties with Josie Holler this year.

During a brief business meeting, Parliamentarian Floride McKoy installed Linda Hogon as treasurer for the coming year.

Program Chairman Debbie Thomas introduced the afternoon's speaker, Karen Watson, executive director of the Sumter County Gallery of Art. Watson presented an interesting and informative program on the art of Norman Rockwell and the Rockwell exhibit currently at the gallery.

Following the program, refreshments were served by the hostess committee chaired by Patti Sosnowski, with Bunni Russell as co-chair. Committee members were Kipper Ackerman, Jeanne Anne Baldwin, Kathi DuBose, Linda Fraley, Fran Kay, Troy Rogers, Sarah Tindal, Anne Walton and Jane Watson. Patti Sosnowski provided the attractive centerpiece for the table.
