SUMMERTON – A 42-year-old Summerton man, who was originally considered a “person of interest” in connection to the April 13 death of John Rhames III, has been charged with murder, according to Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office.

Ricardo L. McFadden, who is also known as “Trick,” was arrested on Monday, April 22, on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection to Rhames’ death. McFadden was taken to Clarendon County Detention Center. Bond for McFadden was denied.

About 7:42 a.m. on April 13, deputies responded to a 911 call about a male who was found unresponsive and lying in a ditch near Washington and Louis streets in West Summerton. Deputies found the man who was soon identified as Rhames with “what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the back of his head.”

CCSO said the investigation into Rhames’ death is ongoing and that anyone with information regarding his death is asked to call CCSO at (803) 435-4414 or CCSO’s 24-hour Tip Line at (803) 433-8477. Callers may remain anonymous.
