Stukes named elementary/arts coordinator for Lee County School District

Lee County School District announces the appointment of Shelia Gamble Stukes from principal of Lower Lee Elementary School to elementary/arts coordinator at the district level. Stukes brings with her 28 years of dedicated service in the field of education.

A native of New Zion, South Carolina, Stukes is a consummate professional whose leadership style fosters collaboration, teamwork and positive relationships. She served as principal of Lower Lee Elementary School from July 1, 2017, to July 18, 2025. Prior to this role, she served as principal of St. Paul Elementary School - now known as Dr. Rose Wilder Elementary School - in Summerton, South Carolina. Her extensive career also

includes service as assistant principal of Scott's Branch High School in Summerton, choral music director at East Clarendon High School in Turbeville and elementary music teacher in Charlotte and Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Stukes earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Vocal Performance from South Carolina State University and a Master's in Music Vocal Performance from North Carolina School of the Arts. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor's and Master's in Education with a specialization in Administration and Management of Educational Programs. She earned her Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University on Oct. 3, 2022.

Superintendent Bernard McDaniel Sr. shared his excitement about Stukes' new role: "Dr. Stukes has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and a passion for student success.
