SPORTS ITEMS: Yankees set homer record

NEW YORK - DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Judge hit back-to-back homers to begin the bottom of the first inning, giving the Yankees a major league-record 28 straight games with a long ball as New York held off the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 on Tuesday.

Gleyber Torres and Edwin Encarnaci n each poked a solo shot over the short right field porch for the Yankees, who shook off another injury to Giancarlo Stanton and won for the 10th time in 11 games.

CHICAGO - Ozzie Albies and Ronald Acu a Jr. homered, and Max Fried pitched six innings of 2-hit ball as the Atlanta Braves beat the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Tuesday.

Acu a crushed the first pitch of the game from Cubs rookie Adbert Alzolay into the left-field bleachers for his 19th homer of the season. Albies hit a towering 2-run shot to right-center off Mike Montgomery (1-2) in the seventh that gave Atlanta the lead.

Fried (9-3) struck out eight, walked a season-high five and allowed two runs in winning his second straight start.

ESPN's Ley retiring

BRISTOL, Conn. - ESPN's Bob Ley, who has been a fixture at the network since its launch 40 years ago, announced his retirement on Wednesday.

The 64-year-old Ley made the announcement on social media. He tweeted that he's enjoying the "best of health" and that the decision to retire was "entirely" his own.

Ley was ESPN's longest-tenured anchor, joining "SportsCenter" on the channel's third day of operation on Sept. 9, 1979.

Federer seeded No. 2, Nadal No. 3 at Wimbledon

WIMBLEDON, England - Eight-time champion Roger Federer was seeded No. 2 for Wimbledon, one spot ahead of Rafael Nadal, reversing their positions in the ATP rankings and creating a debate about whether the All England Club's seeding system should be changed.
