A man was struck by gunfire while walking along South Pike West on Friday evening, Feb. 14.

At about 6:30 p.m., officers responded to North Main Street where a man, 20, was found with a gunshot wound and in need of help.

The man was walking along South Pike West when shots were fired from a passing car, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for police department.

There is no indication that this shooting is connected to the fatal shooting at Walmart Supercenter nearly three hours earlier, McGirt said.

The man was taken to an area hospital and is being treated.

An investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
