Shumperts celebrate 50 years

Donnie Shumpert and Barbara Smith Shumpert celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 16, 2024. Donnie Shumpert from Sumter and Barbara Smith Shumpert from Smoaks met in Sumter while Barbara was living with her sister and her husband, Mr. Bill Cherry and Mrs. Debbie Smith Cherry. They were married at the Sumter Courthouse on May 16, 1974. It was followed by an intimate reception of close family and friends at her sister's house. Mr. and Mrs. Shumpert would eventually have four children: sons Eric, Ryan and Jason, and a daughter, Renee. Both are members of Graham Baptist Church in Sumter. In their spare time, the Shumperts love to spend time relaxing at the lake, or as Barbara calls it, her "happy place."
