Shirley Ardis Nesbitt, 79, widow of Harry Lee Nesbitt, died on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, at Sumter Health and Rehab in Sumter.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Esther Avins Ardis. Affectionately known as "Granny" by all who knew and loved her, she was a homemaker and housewife. She loved children and opened her home to many over the years as a caregiver. She had a passion for cooking, baking cakes and catering for weddings. She loved to crotchet and sew. She was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Cheryl (Larry) and Terri Nesbitt of Sumter and Missy Thompson (Tommy) of Rock Hill; a daughter-in-law, Becky Nesbitt of Sumter; a stepson, Johnny White (Sarah) of Manning; special son, Ronnie Dodson (Kelly) of Sumter; two brothers, Don Ardis of Lexington, North Carolina, and Joe Ardis (Brenda) of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Linda Ardis of Sumter; grandchildren Ashlee Benton (Shea), Megan Nesbitt, Gracie Nesbitt, Kierra Foisey (Aaron), Zach Theisen (Stacey), Matthew Theisen, Shane Nesbitt and Noah Nesbitt; and great-grandchildren, Ethan, Katie, Claudia, Cameron, Corey, Brayden, Chasen and Dawson (Amber Nesbitt).

In addition to her parents and late husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Harry Jr. and John Nesbitt; grandson, Christopher Nesbitt; sister-in-law, Diane Ardis; sister, Peggy Cochran; brothers, John and Walter "Tootsie" Ardis; and special sons, LeRoy Woods and Bo McIntosh.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Clay Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. on Friday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Zach Theisen, Matthew Theisen, Shane Nesbitt, Noah Nesbitt, Shea Benton, Aaron Foisey and Larry Truesdale.
