Scott's Branch students help feed local senior citizens for Thanksgiving

National Honor Society and Student Government students from Scott's Branch Middle High School helped to serve Thanksgiving dinner to a group of Summerton area senior citizens on Thursday at the historical Scott's Branch High School Resource Building. Local organizations, such as the South Carolina Hospice and South Carolina House Calls, sponsored the dinner and set up the time for seniors to discuss vital topics such as hospice care and in-home health care. Students lent helping hands by setting up, serving and cleaning up after the event. The Thanksgiving event is the first community service project students have attended since the COVID-19 pandemic began."This is the first time students have had the chance to serve their community in a while," said Scott's Branch National Honor Society and Student Government adviser and teacher Ruth Garth. "When I asked the students, they eagerly agreed."

The students expressed their reasons for wanting to serve their community.

"I love giving back to the people of Summerton and giving back to people in general because without them, we would not have this generation," said Derrick Georgia, Scott's Branch National Honor Society student. "They lead us to do better and give us knowledge, and I would like to thank them for that."

Clarendon County School District encourages students to lead and serve in their communities, especially when there is a need, as during the holiday season.
