In preparation for its first annual evaluation of the current superintendent, Sumter School District's Board of Trustees must select an instrument or tool for that purpose, and that's the reason for a special-called meeting Monday.
Board Chairman the Rev. Ralph Canty spoke Friday, and a district staff member also posted the agenda online for the media and general public.
As part of Superintendent Penelope Martin-Knox's contract, the trustees are to perform an evaluation in the fall of each year, Canty said. That evaluation will likely occur at the board's Oct. 26 meeting, he said; however, beforehand, the trustees must first decide on the evaluation instrument.
According to the agenda, trustees will discuss various instrument alternatives during an executive session behind closed doors during the called meeting.
Since their monthly board meeting on April 6, the district has kept all meetings closed in-person to the public. All people wanting to attend the meeting virtually can do so via YouTube Sumter School District Board Meeting and the district's Facebook page, @SumterSCSchools.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
