SCDOT preparing for potential winter weather impacts

Posted

COLUMBIA — The South Carolina Department of Transportation has begun preparing for potential winter weather impacts throughout the state.

SCDOT will continue to prepare and monitor the weather as time goes on. As we learn more, you may see crews spraying salt brine or salting the roadways; please slow down and leave room between your vehicle and the salt truck. This increases safety and protects your vehicle from damage caused by salt or salt brine.

Crews will begin with interstate and primary routes and will work their way into secondary roads in preparation. Once we begin to see impacts, crews will shift to monitoring the roadways and de-icing.

SCDOT encourages drivers to stay tuned to local officials for weather updates.

The traveling public should be weather aware and stay tuned to official sources of information including the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, local officials and local broadcasts.
