AIKEN — Savannah River Mission Completion donated $10,000 to Morris College, a Historically Black College in Sumter.

The donation will help advance student enrollment and continue work in science, technology, engineering and math  fields and scholarships.

SRMC President and Program Manager Dr. Dave Olson values a strong education with an emphasis on STEM-related curricula.

“Many SRS employers need to hire individuals with STEM backgrounds,” Olson said. “SRMC’s liquid waste operations are complex, and the company’s success depends on having a skilled workforce to complete the liquid waste mission. SRMC is tapping into the minds of Morris College students with pre-employment opportunities at SRMC through Capstone Projects that allow them to perform meaningful work that impacts SRMC’s ability to meet critical milestones using their STEM knowledge.”

Morris College President Dr. Said Sewell acknowledges that SRMC is a strong supporter and advocate of the college.

“I am pleased with SRMC’s overall interest and investment in Morris College,” Sewell said. “SRMC supports Morris College by providing Capstone Projects and STEM scholarships for our students. This investment will allow us to attract even more students while retaining others. Morris College is appreciative of this partnership.”

SRMC is the Liquid Waste Contractor at the Savannah River Site and comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.

Founded in 1908, Morris College's mission is to produce graduates who can pursue useful and productive careers and in so doing enhance their own lives and the society in which they take their places. That mission is being successfully implemented by the thousands of Morris College graduates throughout the nation who are continually making significant contributions.
