SUMMERTON - Anna Rounette Dennis Lacewell, 87, widow of Charlie James Lacewell, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.

Born May 2, 1923, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Horace and Maggie Dennis Ridgeway. She was a retired waitress and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Davis Station.

Surviving are two brothers, Cleveland Ridgeway and James F. Ridgeway, both of Manning; four sisters, Mary Garris of Walterboro, Myrtle Moore of Tulsa, Okla., Dorothy (Charley) Rucker of Beaufort and Carolyn (Thomas) Minner of Marietta, Ga.; a number of loving nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Carl Ritter officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of his brother, James F. Ridgeway, 1162 Peddlers Lane, Manning.

GEORGE McDOWELL Jr.

TURBEVILLE - George "Short" McDowell Jr., 42, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born May 17, 1968, in Newark, N.J., he was a son of George McDowell Sr. and Lillie Mae Evans McDowell. He was a faithful member of St. John AME Church. He was employed with Randy Pigate Construction for 19 years.

Survivors besides his parents of the home include a son, Pvt. Tawan Q. (Sharnell) McDowell Sr. of Kileen, Texas; a daughter, Tiffany S. McDowell of Timmonsville; two brothers, Master Sgt. William (Deloris) Evans of El Paso, Texas; James (Nicole) McDowell of Stuttgart, Germany; two sisters, Sally (Dwight) Kennedy, and Lourina (Jerry) Durant, both of Turbeville; three grandchildren; six uncles; and two aunts.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at St. John AME Church, Workman community of Kingstree, with the Rev. Frederick Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 2981 Horse Branch Road, Turbeville.

EVERLENA CONYERS McDUFFIE

PINEWOOD - Everlena Conyers McDuffie, 96, died Monday, October 4, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born Aug. 27, 1914, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Jim Conyers and Rena Wilson Conyers. She attended Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Pinewood during her youth. She attended Clarendon County public schools and moved to New York, where she worked as a housekeeper for 28 years. She attended Victoria Baptist Church in Brooklyn before retiring and returning to South Carolina.

She was married to the later Epperson McDuffie, and to this union, three children were born. One child, Benny, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Pringle of Pinewood; one son, Leroy McDuffie of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lula Bell Burgess of Paxville and Estelle Wilder of Pinewood; one sister-in-law, Maggie Conyers of Wilmington, N.C.; one brother-in-law, John Wesley Burgess, of Savannah, Ga.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition of her parents, husband and son, she was preceded in death by four grandchildren, two brothers, and two sisters and two brothers-in-law.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Calvary Baptist Church, Pinewood, with the Rev. E.L. Sanders, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 1065 Boyd Road, Pinewood.
