ROBERT L. MATTHEWS

LAKE CITY - Robert Levern Matthews, 80, husband of Betty Daniels Matthews, formerly of Sumter, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at his home after an illness.

Mr. Matthews was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Florence County, a son of the late Robert Early Matthews and Susie King Matthews. He retired from Campbell Soup Co., Sumter, and attended Friendfield Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Matthews was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Daniels Matthews of Lake City; a son, Robbie (Nina) Matthews of Monroe, N.C.; and a grandson, Lane Matthews of Monroe. He was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Mae Langley and a brother, Michael Matthews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery.
