Rep. Murrell Smith, R-Sumter, was awarded the Behavioral Health Services Association Ambassador Award on June 10 in Florence. Smith represents House District 67, which includes part of Sumter County, and serves as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and the Ethics Committee. The Ambassador Award recognizes individuals who have championed the 301 provider system and the importance of the services provided. "Chairman Smith has been an advocate of the local alcohol and drug abuse treatment system authorities, and we are excited to be able to show our gratitude by way of the BHSA Ambassador Award," Laura Aldinger, BHSA executive director, said in a news release. "Because of his support, we've been able to expand and increase service delivery across the state." BHSA is comprised of the 32 local alcohol and drug abuse commissions providing services in all 46 counties.
