FROM STAFF REPORTS

Area Realtor Denise Weeks has been hired as a business consultant for the Sumter area by the South Carolina Small Business Development Center.

In the position housed at the University of South Carolina Sumter, Weeks will provide resources to entrepreneurs interested in starting a business or expanding an existing business locally, according to a news release from the state association this week.

Weeks will continue with her real estate career and her business development center office hours will accommodate the needs of clients, the release states. Her office is in Anderson Library on the USC Sumter campus, 200 Miller Road.

Weeks holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Business Administration from Winthrop College. She also holds a Doctorate degree in Retail Merchandising and Product Development from Florida State University.

Her work experience in retail and marketing has led her around the world, according to the release, and she was previously an owner/buyer for a women's clothing line when she lived in Florida previously.

Weeks said she's excited about the opportunity to help others in business.

"I look forward to sharing my retail and marketing knowledge and experience with potential and experienced business owners in the Sumter community," Weeks said in the release. "The small business development center can help an entrepreneur with many challenges at any stage of the business life cycle."

The state association historically has helped entrepreneurs create and retain jobs, start new business ventures, assist with capital formation and potentially secure government contracts, according to the release.
