RACHEL G. OLIVER

LODI, N.J. - Rachel Gibson Oliver, 76, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at her home, 86 Westervett Place, Lodi.

She was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Summerton, a daughter of the late Sam Blanding and Leatha Gibson. She attended Clarendon County public schools. In her youth, she accepted Christ at Spring Hill AME Church. After moving, she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Passaic, N.J. She retired from K-Mart Corp. in 2000.

Survivors are three daughters, Catherine Lemon of Brooklyn, N.Y., Susan Dixon of Lodi and Leatha "Nikki" Woods of Lyons, Ga.; four brothers, Leroy (Josephine) Gipson of Miami, Fla., Benjamin Gipson of Newark, N.J., Ivory Gipson of Fayetteville, N.C., and James Gipson of Summerton; one sister, Mary Goss of New York, N.Y.; three cousins reared as sisters, Phosa Johnson, Henrietta (Cantey) Watson and Ruth (Livinski) Plaskett; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one aunt, Williemae Gipson of Summerton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services were held Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Spring Hill AME Church, 4309 Bill Davis Road, Summerton, with the Rev. Richard Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received fr at the home of the late Leatha Gipson, 2977 William Brunson Road, Summerton.
