ALCOLU -- Queen Franklin Monroe died Sunday, May 23, 2010, at her residence in Alcolu.

Born Feb. 6, 1926, in Alcolu, Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Guy B. and Elizabeth Myers Franklin. She was the widow of Frank Monroe. Mrs. Monroe attended Clarendon and Sumter schools. She was a lifelong member of Mount Nebo Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Rabbi Tire Co. in Norwalk, Conn. After returning to South Carolina, she began employment with Cole's Restaurant and Morris College.

Survivors include four daughters, Annie Ruth (Leroy) Miller of Norwalk, Deborah (Albert IV) Van Slyke of Sumter, Linda (Thomas) Henry of Manning and Deloris (Roosevelt) Wilson of Alcolu; three sons, David Franklin and Anthony Franklin, both of Alcolu, and Lee (Brenda) Franklin of Sumter; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Two daughters, a son, 10 sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Alcolu. Burial followed in Mount Nebo Baptist Church cemetery.
