A preventive screening health event, presented by Sandhills Medical of Sumter and South Carolina Cancer Alliance, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Sumter County Civic Center, 700 W. Liberty St.
The event is open to all but will have a focus on engaging men aged 40 and older, as well as women aged 18 and older. Free prostate screening by PSA blood test will be given to those 40 years and older. A $25 gift card will be first come, first served.
According to the S.C. Cancer Alliance, prostate cancer is the most often diagnosed cancer in men and the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths from 2015 to 2019. Early detection through PSA blood tests can enhance treatment outcomes.
