Pinkie "Totsie" Woods Adams, 84, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Palmetto Health Richland, Columbia.

Born Feb. 7, 1926, in Turbeville, Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Harrison Kenzie Woods and Josephine McCray Woods. She was a graduate of Melina Parochial School, Coulter Memorial Academy and received a bachelor of science degree from Morris College. In her youth, she joined Hickory Grove Freeville Baptist Church. She attended Holy House of Prayer while living in Brooklyn, N.Y. After relocating to Sumter, she attended New Covenant Presbyterian Church and later joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Tuesday Bible School Group. Mrs. Adams was first employed as an educator at Lodebar Elementary School. She was a jewelry designer and later worked at P.S. 159 Elementary School, Brooklyn. After relocating to Sumter, she worked as a substitute teacher at Oakland Elementary School and was the owner of Adams Package Store. She was a devoted member of the North Main Community Club. Her interests included decorating her home, listening to her 45 records on Friday night and baking delicious potato pies.

Survivors include an only son, Alton Dexter Adams of Irmo; two brothers, Thomas R. Woods of Sumter and James R. Woods of Washington, D.C.; three sisters-in-law, Ella G. (Warren) Russell of Brooklyn, Goldie Mae Delay of Florence and her beloved sister-in-law, Azalee Woods-Knox of Sumter; a brother-in-law, the Rev. John Epps of Greensboro, N.C.; her devoted niece, Thomasenia (Joseph) Gaines of Sumter; her extended family, Sylvester Holland, Valerie Holland and Terry Holland, all of Sumter, and Larry Adams of Hillside, N.J.; special friends, Doris Smith and Mary Lou Wheeler; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lora Jane Woods; and a brother, Charlton Woods.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 803 S. Harvin St., Sumter with the Rev. Marion H. Newton, senior pastor, officiating.

The family received friends at the home of Joseph and Thomasina Gaines, 717 N. Main St., Sumter.

Interment was held in Hickory Grove Freeville Baptist Church cemetery, Turbeville.
