UPDATED: Sumter coroner says 45-year-old Clarendon man struck, killed on U.S. 15

The name of the pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and killed Tuesday night in Sumter was released Thursday morning.

James McCoy, 45, of Clarendon County died at Prisma Health Richland Hospital of his injuries sustained in the wreck at about 9 p.m. May 13, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

According to Lance Cpl. Trooper Brittany S. Glover with S.C. Highway Patrol, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south  on U.S. 15 South at Lakewood Drive at approximately 8:59 p.m. on May 13, approximately 2 miles south of Sumter, when the vehicle struck a pedestrian walking southbound in the roadway. 

Sumter County Coroner's Office and  S.C. Highway Patrol are investigating, and next of kin has been notified.
